About

Vashisht village sits on the slope above the east bank of the Beas, about 3 km from Manali. Its old temple, built of stone with carved wooden panels, is dedicated to the sage Vashishtha; a smaller shrine to Rama stands nearby. The main draw for many visitors is the hot springs: sulphur-rich water is piped into separate bathing tanks for men and women within the temple complex, free to use. The village has grown into a backpacker base with cafes and guesthouses, but the temple and springs remain in daily use by residents.

How to reach

  1. From Manali Mall, Vashisht is a short taxi or auto ride (about 3 km) across the river.
  2. It is also a 40–50 minute walk from Manali via the main road.
  3. Buses to Rohtang and Leh pass the Vashisht turn-off on the highway below the village.

Best time to visit

March to June and September to November. The hot springs are pleasant in the cold months too, though the village is quieter.
