The temple to Naina Devi stands on a ridge at roughly 900 m with wide views over the Gobind Sagar lake and the plains beyond. It is counted among the Shakti Peethas, where the eyes of the goddess Sati are said to have fallen. Pilgrims reach it by a long flight of steps from the bazaar or by a ropeway. The site is busiest during the Shravan Ashtami fair and the Navratris. A crowd crush occurred here in 2008, and access is now more tightly managed at peak times.
