Churdhar Peak

Churdhar (or Chur Chandni) rises above the Sirmaur–Shimla boundary and is the highest point of the lesser Himalaya in the state. Its summit carries a temple to Shirgul (Chureshwar) Maharaj, worshipped across the surrounding districts, and gives a wide view from the Gangetic plains to the higher snow ranges. The usual approach is from Nohradhar in Sirmaur, about 14–18 km with a stiff climb through oak and deodar forest and a stone rest house partway; a shorter, steeper route comes up from Sarain near Sarahan on the Chopal side. The area is a wildlife sanctuary.

1. Drive to Nohradhar via Nahan and Haripurdhar, or via Solan and Rajgarh.
2. From Nohradhar the trail climbs via Teesri to the Churdhar rest house and on to the summit.
3. The Sarain (Chopal) route is shorter but steeper and less served by transport.

April to June and September to November. Snow closes the upper trail in winter; the monsoon brings heavy cloud and slippery ground.

• It is a genuine high climb — carry water, warm layers and a torch even for a day attempt.
• The forest section is a sanctuary; camping and fires are regulated, so use the rest house or authorised spots.
• Weather on the summit ridge changes fast and there is no shelter beyond the temple.
