Hidimba Devi Temple

The Hidimba Devi (Dhungri) temple sits among tall deodar cedars a short way above the Manali market. Built in 1553, it is dedicated to Hidimba, a figure from the Mahabharata who is worshipped locally as a goddess. The structure is largely of wood and stone, with a three-tiered roof rising to a small metal cone and an intricately carved wooden entrance. The Dhungri forest around it is protected. A short walk away is the Ghatotkacha shrine, a large tree hung with offerings.

1. Manali is ~3 km away; the temple is walkable from the Mall or a short taxi ride.
2. Nearest airport is Bhuntar (~50 km); nearest major rail is Joginder Nagar or Chandigarh.
3. From the temple gate it is a 5-minute walk through the forest to the shrine.

October to June. The Dhungri fair is held here in May. Mornings are quieter; afternoons can be busy with tour groups.

• Remove footwear before entering the inner shrine.
• The cedar grove is cool and shaded even in summer.
• Ponies and costume photo stalls operate outside — agree on a price first.
