About
Bijli Mahadev stands on a ridge across the Beas from Kullu town, with wide views over the Kullu and Parvati valleys. A roughly 60 m wooden staff (*dhwaj*) beside the temple is central to local belief: lightning is said to strike it periodically and shatter the stone *lingam* inside, which the priests then rejoin with butter. The site is reached by road to Chansari and then a 2–3 km walk up through pine and meadow.

- From Kullu, drive ~14 km to Chansari village via the left-bank road.
- From Chansari, walk up the marked path (about an hour) to the temple.
- Nearest airport is Bhuntar (~25 km).
Best time to visit
March to June and September to November for clear views. The meadow is green after the monsoon; winter can bring snow to the ridge.

- The walk is short but steep in places — carry water.
- There is little shade on the final stretch.
