About

Renuka Lake lies in the low hills of Sirmaur, about 40 km from Nahan. In outline it is said to resemble a woman lying on her back, and it is associated with Renuka, mother of the sage Parshuram; a nearby smaller pool is called Parshuram Tal. A temple and ghats sit on the bank, and a large fair is held here around Kartik Purnima each year. A wildlife park beside the lake keeps deer, Asiatic lion and other species, and boating is available.

How to reach

  1. Nahan, the district headquarters, is ~40 km away and is reached from Chandigarh (~100 km) or Dehradun.
  2. Nearest rail is Barara or Ambala; then road via Nahan.
  3. Buses and taxis run from Nahan to Renuka Ji.

Best time to visit

October to March is the most pleasant; the Renuka fair in November is the liveliest but crowded.
