About
Chadwick Falls drops around 80 metres through dense deodar and pine forest in a glen below Summer Hill. It is fed by monsoon runoff, so it is impressive from July to September and thins to a trickle in the dry months. A forest path from Summer Hill, near Himachal Pradesh University, leads down to a viewing area; the walk is the main attraction as much as the falls. The pool at the base is not safe for bathing because of slippery rock and sudden flow. It is a short, popular outing from central Shimla.
How to reach
- Take the toy train or a taxi to Summer Hill, on the western side of Shimla.
- From Summer Hill, a marked forest path descends to the falls — about 20–30 minutes down.
- The last section is steep steps; allow more time coming back up.
Best time to visit
Late July to September, when the monsoon fills it. Outside the rains it can be nearly dry.
