About
Jalori Pass sits on the old road between Ani and Banjar, in the forested Seraj area sometimes called 'Jibhi country'. The road over it is narrow, unpaved in parts and closed by snow in winter. At the top are dhabas and the Mahakali temple. From here an easy 5 km forest walk leads to Serolsar Lake, and a shorter climb goes to the ridgetop ruins of Raghupur Fort with valley views.
How to reach
- From the Manali highway, turn off at Aut and drive via Banjar and Shoja to the pass.
- From the Shimla side, approach via Ani and Khanag.
- Buses run to Banjar and Shoja; the pass itself is best done by taxi or own vehicle.
Best time to visit
April to June and September to November. The pass is usually snowbound and closed from about December to March.
Things to know
- Check whether the pass road is open before setting out, especially in the shoulder seasons.
- The Serolsar walk is easy and well-marked; carry water as there are few shops.
- Stay in Jibhi or Shoja rather than at the pass itself.
