About
Dalhousie was established by the British in the 1850s and named after the Governor-General of the time. It is built across the spurs of Kathlog, Potreyn, Tehra, Bakrota and Balun, linked by level 'rounds' — the Garam Sadak and Thandi Sadak walks around the hillside. Colonial churches, the Subhash Baoli spring and the Panchpula stream are the usual stops, and it is the base for trips to Khajjiar and Chamba. The pace is slow and the town is quieter than Shimla.

- Nearest rail is Pathankot (~80 km); from there it is a 3-hour drive.
- Nearest airport is Gaggal (Kangra), ~120 km.
- HRTC buses and taxis run from Pathankot, Chamba and Dharamshala.
Best time to visit
March to June and September to November. December to February brings snow and a colder, quieter town.
