About
Kangra Fort spreads over a long ridge above the town of Kangra. Its history is tied to the Katoch rulers of Trigarta, and the fort was besieged and held by many powers over the centuries, including the Mughals and later the Sikhs, before an 1849 handover to the British. A major earthquake in 1905 damaged much of the structure. Visitors climb through a series of gates to temples and a viewpoint near the top; the Maharaja Sansar Chand Katoch museum near the entrance provides context and an audio guide.

- The Kangra Valley narrow-gauge railway stops nearby at Kangra Mandir.

October to March for comfortable daytime walking. Summers are hot in the valley; mornings are best.
